The Man, The Myth & his Legend

Today I’m going to talk about one of the main influences in my starting this blog, Tyson Hugie. Simply put, Tyson LOVES him some Acura! He is the writer that fuels  http://drivetofive.wordpress.com/ where he logs his travels in his Acura ILX, which replaced his trusty old Acura Legend Coupe on which he logged over 500,000 miles.

A couple years ago I came across some articles online about Tyson & his Legend. At the time, I didn’t know he had a blog about his quest for 500k. I had made some comments online about my TSX on an Acura Thread & a couple weeks later I was contacted by Tyson. He complimented the progress I had made on the TSX, but it wasn’t until he started talking about his own adventures in his Legend Coupe that it clicked… “Holy Crap! It’s THAT Tyson!” We emailed back and forth a few times & have since met up twice during his travels. The first time was last summer when he was on his way thru Boise heading to Washington. I met up with him in the parking lot of his hotel for a quick meet & greet.  This is my TSX & Tyson’s ILX in Boise. tsx_ilx_tlTyson has a rather large following & was nothing but the poster boy for encouragement in my starting to document my own journey to 500,000 miles. He has been kind enough to feature me & my TSX on his blog several times. Shortly after I rolled 400k and posted about the Shoshone Falls, Tyson decided to come out this way again to see the falls for himself, where we met in Twin falls for lunch and some site seeing. We had sushi at my favorite spot in Twin Falls.sushi_yaThen a stop at the Shoshone Falls.

IMG_0718This time we also checked out Dierkes Lake which is located right by the falls. There is a great little park area with a playground & picnic tables and an awesome little swimming area complete with diving board. I’m looking forward to when Luke is a little older & bringing him & The Princess out here to spend the day. Josie’s sister is coming out next month, so maybe I’ll take them out here for the day…

IMG_0724IMG_0725Then it was across town to the Perrine Bridge. I posted about this bridge early on in my blog & mentioned how some fool is always jumping off this bridge. Well, sure enough, in just the 5 minutes we spent under the bridge taking in the scenery, a parachute opened up and we watched as some adrenaline junky slowly glided to the rivers edge at the bottom of the canyon.

Tyson is due back out again later this summer when he heads to McCall. He’ll be behind the wheel of the TSX while I take him around to some of my favorite stretch of road. Hwy 21 to Lowman in the middle of the Boise National Forest, past Lucky Peak Lake. Good times ahead.

I encourage everyone who hasn’t, to check out Tyson’s blog. His love for Acura, driving, and beautiful places in and around his hometown in Arizona makes for a good read. Thanks for everything Tyson! It’s been a pleasure getting to know you & I look forward to many more road trips.

On a side note, it’s been extremely nice weather here in Boise, & I’ve been spending a lot of time getting the garden ready for the season and planning the next phase of the greenhouse & aquaponics set up. So if you’re into that, you’ll like my next post. Hopefully next week! As always, Thanks for stopping by to check out my progress! I’ll be in for my 405k oil change soon…

I’m all embarrassed and blushing over here! A whole blog post just about me! Haha, thanks Josh. Glad to have connected with ya, and I look forward to seeing you again later this summer!

  2. Carlos says:

Wow Josh. You have already driven almost 4 thousand additional miles since you hit 400,000? That is fast. I only average about 12,000 miles a year.

I’m down to the last 100,000 miles Carlos! I’m eager to reach my goal.
