About

Hello, my name is Josh Clymer. I’m a Property Damage Appraiser ( I inspect wrecked cars for a living) & live just outside Boise, Idaho (Hit the “Home” link to go direct to the latest blog post). This blog is about my 2005 Acura TSX that was originally a wedding gift for my wife, that I kinda stole back after the first year. I started this blog with about 375,000 on the car. It’s been such a remarkable car with so few problems, that I’ve decided to strive for the very rarely attained goal of 500,000 miles. Now that I’ve hit that goal, I’ve decided to keep it going to see what lay beyond. It will also serve as a record of what maintenance was required to attain such a goal. I’ve decide to scan & post all of my maintenance records for anyone who cares to follow along starting with the earliest invoice I could get my hands on (25,000 miles) to constant up to date posting of any service or repairs needed to keep the TSX in good running condition.

It will also showcase the beautiful state I live in as well as some of the more memorable cars I come across in my day to day inspections.

So thanks for stopping by and taking the time to check in on me once in a while. If you become a Follower of my blog, you’ll get email reminders whenever i make any updates.

    Hey!

Congrats on an awesome job! My 04 tsx is at 193k and it’s still going strong. The only bad thing is my ac blew out last summer and I’m too cheap to fix it. Just curious do you only put premium gas on it?

    • clymerdude says:

Thanks for stopping by B! My AC also went bye bye last summer, so I’ll be replacing it this week for the warm weather coming up. I have been using premium for 95% of it’s life, the only time I dropped down to the lower octanes was when gas was around $5 a gallon a couple years ago. Contgrats yourself! Your cruising up on 200k!

Hey I have an Arctic Blue 04 TSX and love your blog, have you ever had a problem with the seat belt buckle? My airbag light comes on when I unbuckle my seatbelt.

    • clymerdude says:

Thanks & glad to have you along Vtecski! But I’ve never had a problem with my seat belt. Especially like you’re describing! I’d get it into the dealer & have them diagnose it at least.

    Hey Josh,

My 04 tsx just hit 196k and I bought it at 176k. So far I have had to
Change the accelerator position pedal sensor and two front control arms. The worst part is I suffered the Black Death. The ac compressor locked up. Do you think it is worth dropping 1100 to fix the ac? I am hoping if I can make it to 300k or even 400k. Let me know. Thanks!

    • clymerdude says:

Hello Blam! If you’re hoping to see some serious miles out of you investment, then YES. I do think it’s worth the additional money to fix the AC. Now, whether or not you can see 300k – 400k miles will depend a lot on how the car has been maintained up to the point of your purchase. Plus how you keep up on the rest of the cars needs. If you’re ready to care for her & the previous owner did the same, then I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to log the miles you want. Feel free to check out my “Maintenance” section where I log all my dealer maintenance to see what I had to take care of in the past. Glad to have you along! 🙂

    Hello Josh,
This is a stylish vehicle. I have a 2008 Civic Coupe with 206,000 miles. The motor is all original, except for a recall on the engine block which I had fixed, so I am looking forward to 400,000-500,000 miles myself. Here is to 500,000 miles on your TSX. You have my support!

Shaubhik (showbic is how you say it)

  8. Shaubhik Roy says:

My automatic transmission is also original. Too many people neglect basic maintenance, and too many people feel the need to splurge on a new car. So, that is why I will always support the high mileage community. It is still cheaper to fix small things, and even major things than it is to buy a new vehicle! 🙂

    Wow 452,000 miles

    • Michael Charles Oliva says:

I have on 04 I bought in 2010 for $10,000 with 92,000 miles and I have had to replace my alternator, radiator, both front lower control bushings, side motor mount, reseal power steering pump twice,AC compressor,VTC Gasket etc…. I have 150,000 miles now and thinking of selling it at 200,000 since whoever had it before seems to not have taken care of it. Looking forward to your updates.

      • clymerdude says:

Thanks Michael, If you do get another TSX, make sure they have their service records for you to look over & take with. A TSX will all service records is worth paying the premium price for. It makes a big difference & closer to stock the better.

I plan on buying a 2007 Acura TSX that has about 104K miles and the CarFax displays a great maintenance record such as regular oil changes, the car only being located in Texas (3 owners, the 1st owner was a corporate fleet and they had it for 8 months), no frame damage or wrecks (cousin checked all frame panels and pillars, he use to inspect cars for a living), and I’ll be doing a pre-buyer inspection at an Acura dealership. Do you think it’s worth a buy and any advice that I can get from you? Thanks and I hope you get to your goal man!

    • clymerdude says:

Thanks! & it sounds to me like it’s good car & you’re doing everything right. As long as the price is fair. Sounds like you’re going to enjoy it for a very long time. Would love to see some pics if you get her.

It’s good you’ve put some miles on it since 500k. I’m now able to slot you into the top 50 highest-mile cars of all time (that I know of). Your rank is #45!

I’m so glad that I found your article….I have been asking forever about the care and maintenance of the Acura tsx.
I have a 2010 Acura tsx and I absolutely love it. It has 97,499 miles on it; and I want it to last me for a long time! I keep it serviced faithfully, and I look forward to your advice as to what I need to look for in the care of this fine automobile! Thank you so much for your helpful advice!

  19. Rajeev says:

    Hello,
Just a quick question, do you pump regular gas or premium gas on your tsx ?
I have 2009 Acura TSX with 288k kms on it.
From the first day I put premium gas & was thinking
To switch to regular gas. Any advice.

    Thanks

    • clymerdude says:

I have always used Premium. Never had any issues yet. Some guys swear you don’t need it, Some swear you do. Do some research and go with your gut. Good Luck!
